I just got my first statement from Kiva!

Perhaps you’re not aware of Kiva.org. They’re a small organization that provides micro-loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries. The loans average about $500, some larger, many smaller, and are given to individuals or groups that have a specific entrepreneurial goal.

The money for the loans comes from you and me in increments of $25.00. Our individual loan amounts are added together to make the amount of loan requested by these entrepreneurs.

I made my first loan last month to these chicken farmers in Tanzania. These chicken farmers have completed their first of four loan payments to Kiva.Their total loan was for just under $4000 for four months. This morning I was notified that they’d made their first loan payment, right on time, and for just under $1000.

When the loan is repaid, I’ll loan that money to another person or group. That way my money recycles, benefitting many people over time.

If you’re interested in learning more, or you’d like to loan money, too, visit Kiva.org for full information and for pictures of entrepreneurs currently requesting loans.

I can’t think of a nicer thing to do!
