The Neti Pot Thing
Have you tried the Neti Pot? It’s a small vessel (holds about one cup) used in Ayurvedic medicine to rinse out the sinus cavities. Clean sinuses, pollen washed away – sounds very sensible, doesn’t it? So I tried it, beginning about the first of this year (2008). Here’s what I found.
I don’t enjoy using the Neti Pot. As far as I can tell, I’ll never enjoy using the Neti Pot. But I use it anyway. It takes less than four minutes to prepare warm salt water (1/8 teaspoon sea salt to 1 cup warm water) and run it through my sinuses.
The thing is this – the Neti Pot works. When I wake up sneezing from the abundant pollen and fungi in the air, it saves me from taking an antihistamine. When I cannot breathe at night, it allows me to get restful sleep.
Sure, it’s no fun. Sure, it’s not pleasant. However, when something works in minutes, without the side effects medications can have, I figure it’s worth a small effort to use it.
My Neti Pot is cheap molded plastic
and hugely overpriced to my way of thinking. But I keep coming back to this one thing: it works!
Sleep well, breathe deeply, stop sneezing.
